The obvious follow on from previous notes on the important role of dopamine in our lives is how can healthier dopamine levels be cultivated. To recap, dopamine is a neurotransmitter with multiple important functions including behavioural effects such as “pleasure” and “stress reduction.” Without the normal function of this substance, an individual will suffer from cravings and have an inability to cope with stress.
A pro-dopamine lifestyle
There exists evidentiary support for the role of holistic activities such as exercise, low glycaemic index diet, mindfulness training, neurofeedback, yoga, and meditation in supporting reward neurotransmission and the natural release of dopamine, which is the product of reward neurotransmission.
Genetic testing and Precision Supplementation
The precision targeting of genetic anomalies in the reward neurotransmission process is now possible. The first step in this process is to get an accurate genetic analysis of the reward gene variants suitable for targeting via a recently available test that I now provide. More information will appear on my websites shortly.
Genetic testing reveals any variants in the reward cascade leading to dopamine production. Based on these results, a recommendation is made for supplements to target the specific variants. Supplementation permits the reward cascade to operate more efficiently and enhances the production of dopamine.
